Hi,
I'm trying to use Archlinux as a Virtualbox guest (the host is Win XP): I've followed the beginner's guide and the install went quite fine but I can't manage to get sound: alsa is installed, Virtualbox sound card (ICH) is recognized, and if I play a sample sound with aplay -vv, I can see that everything goes well, but there's just no sound. I tried lots of settings with alsamixer (muting/unmuting "aux" stuff, etc.), but nothing
Any idea ? Thx in advance !
NB: it worked with other distros (automated configuration though), so it doesn't seem to come from my host or virtualbox.

Solved with alsaconf

Did you read this http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ALS … s_and_test
Edit:
I mean testing as root and making sure your user is in the audio group.

Yes my user is in "audio", and I tried with root too. I didn't try alsaconf, but I will

Unmute every channel, adjust their levels at 80% and try aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav

That's what I did (cf first post) : aplay plays the sound without problem (with -v or -vv I can see that everything is ok) but no sound comes from my speakers (yes, they're on )

Problem fixed with alsaconf; it's nice but a bit frustrating since I don't know what was wrong... The beginner's guide doesn't mention to run alsaconf, so I don't know what I'd missed

Probably you should have run alsactl store as root
