Hello,
With skype, the webcam stopped working with the new kernel release. Did somebody experience this also ? Or better, have a solution ?
My computer is a samsung NC10.
PS: module uvcvideo is correctly loaded

I have the same problem, but didn't check it enough to say, it's the new kernel. will test it, in 3hrs when I come home.

Could it be a USB autosuspend problem (there are strange problems with this in 2.6.30)? Maybe you can check the last block of the output of "powertop -d" (as root, and having powertop installed). Assuming your webcam is a USB device, you can check there if it's 100% active or 0% active.

I have the same problem - webcam stopped working in skype after 2.6.30 - it's a UVC camera.
"guvcview" seems to work fine, but luvcview doesn't - but I don't recall if luvcview worked before 2.6.30
Skype tosses this when it tries to start the webcam:
Starting the process...
Skype Xv: Xv ports available: 63
Skype XShm: XShm support enabled
Skype Xv: Using Xv port 356
luvcview does the following:
luvcview version 0.2.1
Video driver: x11
A window manager is available
video /dev/video0
Unable to set format: 22.
Init v4L2 failed !! exit fatal

Same thing with me --- Logitech UVC camera works for a couple of seconds in Skype and then it freezes.
It worked correctly in 2.6.29 (and in fact still works with it on a different computer).
Works correctly as a microphone only (snd-usb-audio).

I'm having issues as well since 2.6.30. In my instance video works great but sound craps out randomly at times and Skype will just hang. Only thing I have been able to do is just relaunch Skype and redial. Trying the tips mentioned in the wiki haven't helped my instance.
If you skim through the developer forums for Skype linux and realize that no updates or communications have been made in about a year now one gets the impression that development has stalled and as Linux progresses Skype will continue to become less usable. Pretty disappointing....

Hi,
I have this same problem. I have observed that camera is abble to get pictures - I tried in cheese, but problem is with viewing.

I cannot. When I run cheese the red led of my webcam (the one active when filming) lights up, but after a few seconds it turns off and cheese displays the test video (the one with color stripes and some static). Taking a picture results in that same test image.
(My webcam is a playstation 3 eye, using gspca_ov534: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=76340 )
