after bios upgrade, kernel panics

I'm stumped.  My machine won't boot after a BIOS upgrade.  Both Windows and Linux are hosed.

It's not that the BIOS upgrade didn't work: upon booting, I can enter the BIOS setup and change settings, etc.  Grub seems to be OK, too -- I can press 'c' when the grub menu comes up and do things there.  For example, I can read files on the disk, etc.  /boot/grub/menu.lst looks fine.

Most puzzling of all, I can't even boot Linux from an Arch live CD!  The grub menu comes up, I select the kernel I want, and the machine freezes.

Diagnostics go by so fast on the screen I can't read them to get any further idea what's going on.

Any ideas?

Re: after bios upgrade, kernel panics

A risky (given the freezing conditions) but good option would be to downgrade the bios by using a bootable cd/dvd with DOS/FreeDOS.

In love I believe and in Linux I trust
