i just want to know why "i cant use the commander "su" to change to the "root"" and how to solve this problem.
i can sure that the code must be right...but i till cant change......it will show me that "the code is wrong"(mine is chinese,so i am not  sure if it  said like this---but it means this)
and not only changing in x-terms,but also in everywhere that need to confirm the root's code.........
just like in the system maneger, shaman, yaourt and so on..........

Hello, you can prepend sudo to all commands that should be run as root.

sudo pacman -Suy

The other option is to use the su command.

su
# now you have root privileges
pacman -Suy
# many commands here
exit
# now you are normal user again

hi,

sorry, no solution yet. but to verify:
- can you change the language into english and try again? does that work?
- i am sure you have configured a root password?
- you talk about xterm, can you su in a terminal (alt-strg-f1 ... alt-strg-f6)?

hope we can help you,

Problems with your root password? Reset it with a live CD, from a chroot.
