E17 in CVS!

I decided to check if there was any news on this, and finally, it seems its getting closer...

Sun Nov 28 - benr - DR17 now in CVS!!!

Enlightenment DR17 has been added into the primary CVS tree. No, hell hasn't frozen over and last we looked pigs weren't flying although this might signal Duke Nukem Forever sometime before Christmas. Feel free to grab it and muttle around. It's limited in its support for ICCCM, no NETWM support and it has no iconification, virtual desktops, shading, keybindings or button bindings, but it does work. Patches are welcome, contributions are welcome, but bug reports should be ignored... this is CVS code afterall.

If you haven't followed Enlightenment in a while, you'll need to catch up on the EFL first. The EFL is the foundation (get it?) of the DR17 window manager. Information on CVS and the build order can be found here.

Learn more about Enlightenment DR17 on its project page.

Anyone thinking in trying it?
I am.

rensel created a repo with e17 cvs packages - you can get them here: ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/tur/rensel

Re: E17 in CVS!

a significant amount has been done since the 1st of december when the cvs packages were created..
I just downloaded the cvs today and the size is ~100mb.

Are the packages going to be upgraded any time soon?

Re: E17 in CVS!

Well, for what ive seen in the show-off videos of E17, there are a couple things that this build is missing, in this build (the packages) you cant launch anything from the Menu, neither maximize or minimize windows to the iconbar, also, Firefox makes de WM crash, and leaves a clean X with firefox running on top of it. BUT! the iconbox is puuuuure eye-candy, the dropshadows are awesome, and the epplets are getting a hole new look (incredible nice).
I guess i will try to build from CVS just to see how things are changing smile

I'm rebuilding them right now. I will probably add packages for the Engrave library, E_utils and maybe Evidence file manager.

Very nice! But from what I have seen from 20041201 e17 is far from complete. The devs also state this clearly when starting e17. So I think we will have to wait a couple of months more for E17 stable.

It'll run along with it....but E17 is seriously nothing too pretty yet..

People like you make me create bad habits!
I need to compile from time to time, just to remember the three key commands smile
Weeeellll... guess Ill do it at another moment wink

One question thought, is Eterm getting any changes along E17? is it worth it to compile it from CVS?

Re: E17 in CVS!

I build the other day, in actual fact there isn't a massive increase in the latest cvs although it would be nice to have it as a pkg.
Engage cvs is quite interesting and functional however, if you are willing to create your own icons for it (which isn't hard.. you just need the included pngs and to run the build script).
(Engage is the starterbar like app, similar to gdesklet one but uses opengl and thus uses less resources)

Also.. when I build it I had to do it in /usr/local/ or whatever the default was.. I couldn't get it to work in /opt/
