Hi All,
I was using the FF 3.0.10 came with ArchLinux pacman. Recenty I downloaded the latest FF from mozilla website and put that in /opt/firefox. I am able to do all other things in it except watching the full screen flash video from Youtube. The browser stucks when I click on the full screen option. But that is working fine in the old browser ( Gran paradiso ). I am not able to find the root cause of it. An idea ?

And why did you do that? Why not use pacman/AUR? Besides, Firefox 3.5 is already in stable repo's.
Offline
Basically 3.5 in the repos so I would remove the one you got from mozilla and then type:
pacman -Sy firefox
Or you could have just done "pacman -Syu" assuming that you did not remove the pacman one.
The software required Windows XP or better, so I installed archlinux.

I have done that now. But the situation become more worst. Now the pacman returns an error when I am using it.
(8/8) upgrading FireFox [##################################################################] 100%
sh: error while loading shared libraries: libreadline.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
error: scriptlet failed to execute correctly
sh: error while loading shared libraries: libreadline.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Also now the new FF that I installed crashes when I click on full screen option in YouTube. There is no warning or something the FF suddenly closes all the windows when I click on full screen option.

upgrade your system. pacman -Syu
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Ohh no
Now I am not able to boot in to my Arch linux. I tried both mutiuser and single user mode. I am getting following errors.

Any way to fix this without reinstalling the system.

You can boot from Arch installation CD, setup your network, mount your partition(s) to /mnt then run
pacman -Syu --root /mnt --dbpath /mnt/var/lib/pacman --cachedir /mnt/var/cache/pacman/pkg --logfile /mnt/var/log/pacman.log --config /mnt/etc/pacman.conf
or you can chroot into your system as described in http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Boo … omplicated and then just run pacman -Syu

firefox 3.5 both repo and pgo from AUR crash when entering fullscreen in flash movies.
the fix is very simple:
launch firefox with: LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libGL.so.1 firefox
could someone patch the PKGBUILD to apply this very simple solution?

Yes that helped, thanks.
But it only happened with youtube flash movies, others were able to go fullscreen.
I got the following error messages in the console after the crash (cut off):

Oh just wanted to mention that this bug only appears in firefox, not opera or konqueror.
So I guess it is not a flash problem, as mentioned in the bugreport?

well, disabling hardware accelration in the flash settings solves this.

But why is it only occurring in firefox?
I tested konqueror, opera and this gnome browser thinggy, they all work fine. Only firefox is crashing, so it can't be a general flash problem (or can it)?

Thanks you silvik for the workaround.
I can see bug reports and forum threads at Firefox/NVIDIA/Adobe and other Linux distributions. It seems that nobody is not able identify which application contains the bug

ok.. how can i make this fix permanent?
'couse i saw in other forums to add "LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libGL.so.1 firefox" to the file "/usr/lib/firefox-3.5/ -->firefox.sh <-- " . Unfortunately i don't have that file... instead i have "/usr/lib/firefox-3.5/run-mozilla.sh" ... tried with that file but it doesn't work

You can try this :
run : which firefox and you will get something like this :
$ which firefox
/usr/local/bin/firefox
then move the original binary
mv /usr/local/bin/firefox /usr/local/bin/firefox.org
then create a file called /usr/local/bin/firefox ( depends in the result of which ).
vi /usr/local/bin/firefox
add the content like :
#!/bin/bash
export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libGL.so.1
/usr/local/bin/firefox.org
then :
chmod 755 /usr/local/bin/firefox

Is it still unknown what causes this bug?

Looks like a problem in the way firefox handles memory:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=469439
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=493541
I just rebuild with the patch from #493541, so far it works without crashing.

You can disable hardware acceleration in the flashplayer's settings dialog. This fixed the problem for me.

For me it is working again since the latest firefox update. I can have hardware acceleration turned on again...

Works here as well. Makes sense, since Bug 493541 was fixed in xulrunner 1.9.1.3.
