i looked through all the pacman-for-newbies docs on the wiki, but i can't find anything to describe what i'm seeing here
so i see that firefox-3.5-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz is in ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/extra/os/x86_64/
however, pacman doesn't seem to be able to find it (it still shows firefox's version as 3.0.11-1):

i'm pretty sure my pacman.conf is the default; it looks like this:
[core]
# Add your preferred servers here, they will be used first
Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
[extra]
# Add your preferred servers here, they will be used first
Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
[community]
# Add your preferred servers here, they will be used first
Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
...and here's my mirrors.list (i added the official repo just to make sure, and still nothing)

Wait for your mirror to sync.
archlinux - please read this and this — twice — then ask questions.

I'm not 100% sure how it works but I think pacman just picks up the first mirror in the list.
Try commenting out the top one, one at a time and do pacman -Syy again.
