Hi everyone,
I'm using pulsaudio and sometimes for no apparant reason my sound is muted. In pavucontrol all volume settings are correct: no muted sound and nothing turned to 0%.
The only way to unmute the sound i found is by changing the alsa configuration back to default (so it doesn't use pulseaudio) and then using alsamixer to unmute the sound (after which I have to put back the origional configuration of alsa). What causes this behaviour and how can i fix it?
Thanks in advance.

Okay, I just found out the following command allows me to run alsamixer without changing the alsa configuration. The rest of the problem still stands, however.
alsamixer -c 0

Follow the wiki for the setup of Pulse.
Specificity the part about setting your Alsa levels and then saving them.
OR if you look in the Beginners guide
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beg … igure_ALSA
Saving the Sound Settings
Exit your normal user shell and run /usr/sbin/alsactl as root:
$ exit
# alsactl store
Enjoy
PS. Is this even the right part of the forum to post in?

The settings are stored. And rc.d/alsa restores the settings when it is started per default.
This was all setup since before the problem occured.
One of the problems it is that the problem occurs only rarely, so its difficult to find a cause.
And no, this is probably not the correct part of the forum. Sorry for that.
