[SOLVED] System upgrade broke pm-resume (kernel problem?)

It now seems every other time I suspend to RAM, it fails to come back. I just get a blank screen, no backlight, with a completely unresponsive keyboard. At this point, the only thing I do that has any effect is a hard shutdown by holding down the power button. I had no problems before I upgraded on April 10. I didn't post this immediately because I wanted to see if the new xorg-server and associated updates would fix it, but it didn't.

Here is pm-suspend.log:

Initial commandline parameters:
Tue Apr 14 03:46:54 PDT 2009: Running hooks for suspend.
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/00auto-quirk suspend suspend: Adding quirks from HAL: --quirk-dpms-on --quirk-dpms-suspend --quirk-vbe-post --quirk-vbemode-restore --quirk-vbestate-restore --quirk-vga-mode-3
success.

Re: [SOLVED] System upgrade broke pm-resume (kernel problem?)

I've been reading the forums and wiki some more, and the best I can determine is that I should use the fallback kernel image for now. Any other comments or suggestions?

Re: [SOLVED] System upgrade broke pm-resume (kernel problem?)

Update: it was the new kernel, but even the fallback image had the same problem. However, as a workaround, I've downgraded the kernel back to 2.6.28, which does fix the problem.

Re: [SOLVED] System upgrade broke pm-resume (kernel problem?)

I was running into the same problem on a fresh install and kept blaming it on all the recent X upgrades, I never even considered the kernel...sheesh.

Since this is a fresh install I don't have 2.6.28 in my cache, anyone willing to help me out with that (i686)?

Re: [SOLVED] System upgrade broke pm-resume (kernel problem?)

Hi there. Me here with the same problem. Well I think it to be so...

I can not suspend/resume for the second time - when I resume the backlight turns on, but the suspend LED is not turned off, HDD works, CPU, fans work. My computer is Thinkpad T43p. And older kernel does solve the problems.

I am considering one more issue about this problem is that the drivers may conflict with the newest kernel (for example my opensource ati drivers). Any suggestions?

By the way, if someone needs older packages, you can use 'Arch Rollback Machine' (ARM - http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=53665)

Re: [SOLVED] System upgrade broke pm-resume (kernel problem?)

I've got the same issue on Fujitsu-Siemens laptop. I tried everything (I think) I could dig on this forum and wiki, and finally, ended with 2.6.28. No 2.6.29 release works with pm-suspend on my laptop. But I've got no problems on my desktop.

raku, what graphics card do you have? My card is ATI Mobility FireGL V3200, which is an X600 version from what I understand.

Re: [SOLVED] System upgrade broke pm-resume (kernel problem?)

you might try to add "hpet=disable" to your kernel options and see if that works.

after suspend, when I wake up my laptop it reeboot!
I've a dell latitude d820 with nvidia proprietary driver.
I should insert this option in my menu.list?

Re: [SOLVED] System upgrade broke pm-resume (kernel problem?)

You can try it. This should not be dangerous, as it simply forces the kernel to use the older RTC system. But as HPET provides some benifits, this should only be a workaround. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HPET) Hope this issues will be fixed.

Re: [SOLVED] System upgrade broke pm-resume (kernel problem?)

The latest kernel (2.6.30, in [core]) seems to have fixed this. smile Marking as solved.
