Here's the problem - ever since Firefox 3.0, surfing has been sluggish. Especially sites with lots of flash like youtube. Scrolling is choppy, the whole thing uses alot of CPU and there's a lot of hard disk activity. The whole browsing experience is sluggish at best on more complex sites.
For example - this video is choppy on Firefox 3.5: link - audio skips every half of second and FPS are near 4-5 per second by my estimate.
Today I compiled Firefox 2.0.0.16 (codename Bon Echo) from AUR (use GCC 4.3.3) - and it works flawlessly. What the heck? No scrolling lag, no slowing down of any kind. The above flash video works without any problems.
Why did the things go down the hill? I mean, it could be that I have a bit slow computer (Dell notebook, Pentium M 1.73GHz, Intel i915, 1GB ram), but come on, it should be fine to run firefox at least.
The reason I tried Firefox 2 because previously I discovered that Chromium was also alot faster then Firefox 3.5, so I suspected it had something wrong with it.
Anyone experiencing anything similar?
P.S. What happend to the Firefox I knew when it came out, that was fast and light and booted in 2 seconds at most? ![]()

This link works by me well. What the output of 'top' and 'free' command?
If you download a video from those links ? After that can it work flawlessly ?

Yes, it does, but i don't need the video lol, I just used it as an example.
I'll post top and free soon.
P.S. I guess people with faster machines don't notice this...

Karabaja4:
I'm running a Lenovo T61p with a Intel T7500, 4GB of ram, and Nvidia Quadro FX 570M. And I still have problems. People that have fast computers certainly can have this issue.
I have problems with flash sites, and also heavily javascript'd sites like facebook. I have issues with firefox restarting properly after extension updates or theme changes.
Ever since version 3.0, I have had a slew of issues with firefox on Arch Linux, and I am continually getting more and more fed up with it. Every update brings more issues, and I haven't found any solutions for all the issues existing prior to 3.5.
After the 3.5 update, I can't get firefox to launch at all. I have removed ~/.mozilla without any luck. Running from the console does not help either. Tried running it with -safe-mode, -ProfileManager, and --display=0:0. Nothing works, and if I don't find a fix soon, I'll be officially done using firefox.
Now that I'm done ranting, can anybody help with these issues?

Small update:
1. libtrash is not installed.
2. The 'unset LD_PRELOAD' fix does not work.
3. I have reinstalled firefox, xulrunner, and libgnomeui. No change.

Flash video has been choppy in Arch for just about forever, in both x86 and 64-bit. Videos that play fine in flash in another distro on the same computer always lag and skip in Arch. I've been looking for months for the reason but can't find it. I'm not sure there's any easy answer to it, just something you have to live with in exchange for all the other benefits of Arch.
p.s. if anything, 3.5 is noticeably faster for me than 2.0. So it's just a mystery, imo. ![]()

Try creating or modifying the about:config value browser.sessionstore.privacy_level to 2, and browser.sessionstore.interval to 30000.
