Slow flash playback with nvidia 8200

Hi,

Just upgraded to (forced) to nVidia 8200. Followed the wiki page to install/setup nvidia driver. However, playing youtube clips are pretty slow: I can see a frame being rendered from top to bottom. Otherwise it seems OK. Playing xvid/divx are fine. 3D seems fine too.

Any idea?

Thanks,

Re: Slow flash playback with nvidia 8200

I have the same problem, I just installed the new Arch 64 and did

pacman -S flashplugin

The playback on Youtube is slow and choppy, especially when it comes to full screen, pretty annoying.:(
Any one has any ideas?

By the  way the package flashplugin I installed should be the new adobe flash of 64 version, right?

Re: Slow flash playback with nvidia 8200

I read from Wiki somewhere that when you update the kernal, you should reinstall the Nvidia dirver.

I remember that yesterday right after I finished a fresh installation of Arch64, I did pacman -Syu, and there is a kernal update.

But after I reboot, X starts normally. Then do I still need to reinstall Nvidia driver ? Could this be the root of the flash prolbem?

Re: Slow flash playback with nvidia 8200

I never experience this problem before with Arch 64?
do you guys think it is possible that it's related to the new ext4 file system? in other words, is it a I/O problem with ext4?

I have Arch64 and do not have that problem. I don't have ext4, though.

Re: Slow flash playback with nvidia 8200

The few vids I tried from YouTube played the same in fullscreen or regular size.

Re: Slow flash playback with nvidia 8200

I am guessing this may be related the cpufreq problem. cpufreq do NOT tune up even mplayer is playing choppy videos.

Re: Slow flash playback with nvidia 8200

I have tried again by doing another fresh install of Arch 64 on ext3 partition, it simply use way too much cpu when playing flash, 140%, and the playback is very choppy.

I guess I have to stick with 32 Arch right now, and wait a little bit. This is not a problem in my 2008 arch installation though.

Re: Slow flash playback with nvidia 8200

I'm running Gentoo with Flash 10.0.22.87 and have this terrible slow video problem. It's especially bad with fullscreen. I ran across many sites where they are trying to figure out the problem and most blame it on Compiz. Some Adobe Flash blog person says the conversion of YUV and RGB mixed with Compiz is bad news. Compiz this Compiz that.

So I have no Desktop Environment, I just run Compiz-Fusion with pcmanfm and Cairo-dock. I ran firefox and then killed everything else (including compiz). So I'm left with Firefox and a youtube video and it still runs bad...especially in fullscreen.

Anyways, I looked into what's up with Flash these days and a couple of things I picked up on were that HW Accel capability detection is done (based on what? dunno) and that it might actually be thinking your (my) 8600GTS is not capable of it. Also, it turns out that there is a config file where I was able to change

OverrideGPUValidation = 1

in the /etc/adobe/mms.cfg file. It works now. I'm preeeetty sure the GPU can handle it wink

Hope this solution works out for others.
