Hello all, I remember hearing a while back that plans had been undertaken to turn pacman into a separate library collection and CLI front end. The issue seems to be spread amoung different threads in the forums, but not dedicated to one individual thread ( at least none that I could find ). I was wondering if anybody had any information on the status of pacman being turned into a library. Any input would be helpful.

the only lib I've seen was libpacnet (mono)
we also had some frontends (without a lib) just using the output of pacman.
I'm not sure where you've heard that pacman's devs wants to make a sep lib. I'm not sure though and if true I like it

I feel that making pacman into a lib would aid in the development of tools outlined in this thread:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?p=58408#58408
It could also lead to neat stuff like a update notification applet for the gnome and kde panels.

i've heard of this project, i think it's apeiro and orelien that are coding on it,
arch + gentoo + initng + python = enlisy

if you had done a search here or on the mail list you would know that it is in the works and the best info on its progression would not come from us users but from the horses mouth (in this case orelien or judd)

I emailed the list and Judd personally about it and got no response, so I don't know how complete or ready it is. I only hope they are busy and it's actually still going to happen, and preferably soon as I have some great plans I'm keen to get working on.
