Can't detect USB drive after boot

I am trying to install Arch on laptop with external USB hard disk.
I partiitioned and formated disk, installed packages, installed kernel, grub on USB disk, then rebooted.
Disk was hd1 during installation but after boot it's hd0, that's OK, booting starts, but kernel can't detect USB hard disk, it detects only /dev/sda, which is internal laptop disk. I tried to add rootdelay, but it didn't help.
Why usb drive is not detected after boot? It boots from it...

Re: Can't detect USB drive after boot

What do you understand under "not detect". Can you see any kernel message about it, or can't you see in /dev only ? Do you use official archlinux kernel without any kernel hacking ? Is the driver okay ?

Re: Can't detect USB drive after boot

I was trying to install Arch Linux 2009.02. So it's not a new problem.
There is one hard disk inside laptop, it is detected by kernel at boot, I see sda in logs.
There is another hard disk connected via USB, I put system and grub there.
System boots from it, but then kernel can't detect it, there is no sdb in logs.
So kernel boots but then in stops, because system can't be found.
Do you know what may be wrong? I know that Ubuntu started without problems with this configuration, probably some usb parameter is missing but I really have no idea why usb hard disk just can't be detected as any other disk during boot.

Re: Can't detect USB drive after boot

OK this is some bug in 2009.02 or 2.6.28 kernel, I installed Arch 2007.06 without problems so far.
