Synaptics forgets vertical scrolling

Dear all,

I wish someone could point me towards a solution with this intriguing problem. The touchpad has worked great previously with other distros and sometime also with archlinux, but yesterday - for some reason - it started to forget the vertical scrolling.

It works for a moment after logging in via GDM, but the setting gets losts pretty fast. If I issue

synclient RightEdge=5000.

it magically starts to work again. (Magically because according to

synclient -l

is has been set all the time.)

Configuration is pretty simple and done through hal.

Any ideas?

Do you have any backup to take a diff among the previous and the present configs ?

In last case you can use the jolyjoker /etc/rc.local for temporarily solution

Thanks for the comment. I don't think this is actually a configuration issue. I used pretty much the default config also last time.

Besides, it *works* for a moment but the setting gets lost. Hence, I think it might be something related to HAL in general.

Why don't you use your backup to get back?

I'm not sure what you mean... As I said, I think this is related to HAL, and not a configuration issue. My configuration is the same (as far as my memory serves).

okay, backup... So if you had a working system, and now can't work, we use backup in this case e.g. to gain the working state of it...

I'm really thankful to you for all the effort in trying to help me. However, you must realize that I was referring to a different Linux distribution with many differences in versions of various programs etc.

So, I know that the device works, and I know it works in principle with HAL and other related programs. Unfortunately, for some reason, the device forgets the vertical scrolling setting after a short period when using current Archlinux setup.

I would like to hear if anyone has an idea on why this might happen.
