Good day, first of all.
Tough new to Arch, i have /some/ experience with gnu/linux, and this is beyond me. I am running arch x86_64 with gnome, loving it. But if i choose an image as a wallpaper i get nothing but the color. Not even the gnome basic images would work, just the colors. Been around looking for a solution for about 3 hours, i appeal to your kindness.
Any ideas?
thanks in advance.

evildrake,
I am having the same problem in kde4, just started after recent update as of today.
May be they are related. Did you just update?
edit:
I found that it was the gtk2 update that has somehow messed things up i believe.

libjpeg broken.
Convert your JPEG wallpapers to PNG and temporary Enjoy ;-)
Wait for fixed this problem.

I see now this is a libjpeg issue, still, no png or any image format will show up as my wallpaper. Today all that packages updated, but the issue persists.

I fixed it by using this command
ln -s /usr/lib/libjpeg.so.7.0.0 /usr/lib/libjpeg.so.62
from this thread
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=75991
As a temporary solution I think it's okay. But I guess you might want to revoke it, when it gets fixed.

I've been informed that it is not advised to symlink libraries. Please ignore this.

yep. i already knew that, since i am watching that thread. Atm i am thinking about switching to i386 for other reasons... but i do not want to reinstall arch if i will still get this bug. is minimal yet very very annnoying.

They're working on it > http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/15222
Actually my problem was fixed in Xfce when I upgraded thunar (and some others).
Don't know which package(s) in Gnome that needs rebuilding.

I'm running i386, Gnome, nvidia and updated yesterday.
No probs with my wallpaper or anything else jpeg related so far.
Had to add the line:
Option "TripleBuffer" "True"
to my xorg.conf to make 3d play a bit nicer is all.

Mmm this afternoon i will reinstall, with i386. So this thread is not solved, but i'll write here if the problem persists. The price of a rolling release, heh?

Just to let you know I'm on an i386 system and had some problems with libjpeg. I think some mirrors are not sync'ed properly yet.

I understand that. Actually most mirrors i tried seemed to be out of sync. a couple in germany and australia. brazil ftp's, tough, seemed well sync'ed. In any case, you can always turn to the throttled "official" mirror.
Thanks for the help guys.
