Arch as a vmware guest! open-vm-tools problems :(

I've been fiddling with vmware and I have been unable to get auto resizing and seamless mouse intergration working in my guest (arch). I followed the wiki article exactly and i am unable to get it working. Should i resort to the vmware-tools they include in workstation 6.5 or is there a solution i cannot find ?
