Hi,
I've got a new laptop wich has 4 gb in RAM and also a dual core processor.
I've searching on the wiki and the forums but can find a clear answer
Should I install the 64 bits version or the 32? Do I have to keep in mind something particular during the instalation?
I'm asking this because the first time I've got a machine this big. I have no problems with most software since most things I use I got them from AUR.

You should be installing the 64 bit version. Everything should be the same as the regular install AFAIK.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll be installing Arch64 this weekend.

No problemo. Make sure to read through the Beginner's Guide and the install guide.

Just to throw a spanner in the works I will mention that it is possible to use that full 4GB on a 32 bit system by recompiling your kernel with minimal effort.
This does break several crucial things, and some things will run slightly slower, so yeah, it's not recommended, but it is possible.

I haven't seen a mano a mano test if i686 and amd64 optimizations...but for many tasks (such as media ripping etc), amd64 beats the pants off i386 on Debian.
If you have a 64bit processor there's really only a very few reasons NOT to take advantage of it--such as Google Earth etc.

Google Earth works fine for me. In fact, I can't think of anything that doesn't.
It's time to look forward and leave 32-bit behind

If you want to use wine/skype, then remember it'll be a bit tougher in 64-bit, but very possible. I'm gonna do my usual plug for a chroot rather than lib32 setup, but that's a personal choice of course.
