For last days I got LOTS of news about vim related plugins and themes in my rss reader from aur rss list. Not sure if this is prohibited and it's only IMO, but I don't think there is need in "dozens" of single vim themes as aur packages. I think it's better to make one big package with all these themes. Just want to listen for thoughts about this.

Indeed, 1 package to rule them all.

More than sure, he (djszapi) is doing this with a script. It's awfull, PLEASE keep AUR clean!

Hello! Why is it problem? In this case the whole http://www.vim.org/scripts/index.php is not neccesary...
I think it's not a good idea to take in one package these because of more causes.
One of them i wouldn't install all my themes e.g. on my system if i really need for just one, to keep cleaner the system.
Another Reason for it these script numbers're growing up continously....
Btw, in this case is sergej the biggest spammer ? LOLLOLLOL
PLEASE keep AUR clean! -> All my packages is clean, and i can see in AUR lot of not clean packages, which destroyed my system. That's the real prolem!
Please read the archwiki relevant sites, pls...

Why, I personally hate vim but I see no reason to cage-up vim users and forbid them to use as many scripts as they want. Imho the bigger repo is, the more users distro will attract. I know that's only aur, and there are dozens of things which should have been moved immediately even to extra (such as rails. Gee, it's really a shame it's in aur only), but that's what aur is for. I guess vim users will be glad. And aur rss's are doomed to be flooded with stuff you don't use, so just live with it.

Ted

How is this any different to the >1000 haskell libraries?

Tadzik and Allan have right. So another people do it too, because it's the best solution in this case that they can do.
Btw, take off rss if these things bothers you, so not just vim packages are uploaded AUR, not these x packages will destroy your life ![]()

I'm not sure about themes. I'd like to hear more opinions from people. Frankly speaking, I can't see any problem in going directly to vim.org and downloading them manually. But I'm sure, that tons of aur packages with a single themes for vim is just a silly idea.
I'm not bothered with my flooded rss, I just worrying about aur.
>>All my packages is clean, and i can see in AUR lot of not clean packages, which destroyed my system. That's the real prolem!
Can you prooflink it? Just interesting.

vimgdb was such a one, but i've adopted it e.g., and i corrected it.
People use distribution because of package handling system e.g., not to manually install packages from the internet. you will reach that pacman/archlinux is not neccesary too:)))))
Of course if i'd like to get a theme plugin for vim, because it's my favourite, i was one choice until now, go to the vimscript site, i've linked, and download it, and copy manually, untar manually, wget manually.
Well, this is very easy with PKGBUILDs to take it automatically.
Btw, please read the others comment, like Allan Tadzik.
At last my friends and some user took a "Thank you these plugins", so the community activity isn't so easy ![]()

IMO it's far away of KISS. Then why not to have PKGBUILDS for all firefox extensions, those even needed by "3,5 of anonymous", why not to upload to aur tons of PKGBUILDS for greasemonkey scripts from userscripts.org and so on.
1. I'm not against vim scripts in aur in general. I'm against the way just uploading all of them to aur with parsing description from vim site. Not the popular ones, not most useful, but all, just to be.
2. And yes, I'm against single PKGBUILDS in aur for vim themes.
3. I'm not the main law in Earth or else, just want to listen what others think about.

I agree with kwinto that these packages are not necessary in the AUR.
The same approach as for the Firefox themes and extensions, or Greasemonker scripts, or gkrellm themes, ..., seems preferable to me, to keep the AUR simpler :
to install directly from sources the few ones we need or choose, outside the package manager.
They are not really softwares after all, but little add-ons used only by some, and so not requiring full packages in my opinion.
I use the vim text editor myself but not everybody uses it regularly or likes it, and I can understand that seeing all these packages could be annoying.
Greetings to all.

I would much rather have single packages for single themes/scripts than one monolithic peice of junk. Why should I have to install 40 files when I only want one of them? As allan said, haskell is ilke this, iirc perl is like this too. And there are tons of python libraries that are packaged on their own. I appreciate the concern, but I see absolutely nothing wrong with this.
archlinux - please read this and this — twice — then ask questions.

Okay in that case please report a bug report to the maintainer of vim script (developer) in core/extra repository too, why they choosed that way.

The AUR is exactly the place where such things shouls occur. Myself I do not install anything by hand, everything is packaged. And if someone would do the same for firefox extensions it would be beneficial - given it works, fulfills guidelines and is well packaged.

Ok, back on topic. Personally, I prefer to install my Emacs extentions manually, but I don't see a problem in having lots of vim-* packages and emacs-* packages.
About Perl packages, I recommend you to take a look at pacpan.

I took a look at pacpan yesterday. I had problems making a PKGBUILD for perl-list-allutils (List::AllUtils on CPAN), and I think pacpan is good for perl experts only.

Okay, I'm just a simple user only, I've seen this vim-script was exists in arch, in core/extra repository too, not just in community/aur, and I've used earlier gentoo, and there were too a vim-script packaging standard.
But If the developers/Tus will say it's not okay, i can't do with it anything (and of course i wouldn't like to do) hehe ![]()
