All kinds of video fail in 2.6.30 / nVidia 185.xx.xx

Just checking to see if anybody out there is also having these problems ... wondering if I should open a bug report.

So upgrading to kernel 2.6.30 and the nVidia 185.xx.xx driver causes video nightmares everywhere.    A few that are really problematic:

- Logging into KDE gets all the way to the end of the splash screen, then plasma pegs CPU.   Kill off plasma and you log in.
- Any time you Alt+F2 in KDE, krunner pegs CPU even after launching an app
- Mplayer doesn't exit ... ever.   You have to Ctl+C it.   Sometimes it pegs CPU.
- Mythbackend (MythTV) pegs CPU.
- Mythfilldatabase (MythTV) pegs CPU.
- Mythfrontend (MythTV) pegs CPU.
- Mythcommflag (MythTV) pegs CPU.
- Opera 9.64 will simply not open.   Trying to open it pegs CPU.
- Plasma will randomly peg CPU during use.

Basically ... almost anything doing video has a strong potential for fail ... and some random KDE bits that are largely unrelated, too.

All of the above have to be manually killed off with the kill command.   Downgrading to kernel 2.6.29 and last stable nvidia 180.xx.xx solves these problems.

[Edit:  This is my 64-bit Arch desktop with a GeForce 260 GTX]

Re: All kinds of video fail in 2.6.30 / nVidia 185.xx.xx

FYI:  I fixed this by manually installing the nVidia 185.18.14 .

The nvidia package (185.18.14-1) ... at least when I downloaded it ... was a joke.     It was built against /lib/modules/2.6.29-ARCH despite requiring 2.6.30.     When I manually installed nVidia driver it claimed I had an existing install .... of version 185.18.08.

Fail.

It seems good, but in this case report it to the author/maintainer too, to correct it in the near future smile
