Why does wicd need notification-daemon? Is there any way that I can disable it in wicd so I can uninstall it and still be able to use wicd-client, or at least wicd-curses?

Maybe you can form it, if try it from abs, source. But at last you delete manually
By the way why is it problem for you ?

Ah yes, ABS. Thanks. I repackaged wicd through ABS after I added --no-use-notifications as a configure option in the PKGBUILD.
I didn't want all the junk it pulled in on my system like gconf. gconf probably doesn't make a difference to my system while its daemon is running but I am a minimalistic freak and I don't like any GNOME stuff infesting my wonderful Openbox setup.
