FGLRX + glxgears = system lockup

I'm running a freshly installed Arch installation (2.6.30-ARCH) with the proprietary catalyst fglrx driver.

As soon as I try to run "glxgears" or "glxinfo", the system locks up, and can only be restored by a hard reboot.

I've tried everything, and googled for hours to no avail.

Anyone have a possible fix or been experiencing a similar issue?

Apparently this is a problem with SMP kernels only. (according to the AUR comments) Still looking for a fix...

I have the exact same problem Someone pls post a solution if you find one.
