Problem enabling-disabling touchpad

I have a problem which cannot fix it.

First: I have disable completed on boot the touchpad using rules on /etc/hal/fdi/01-touchpad.fdi (using the parameter TouchpadOff). This is working.

Second: I have put 2 rules in udev to enable and disable touchpad up on external mouse connection. That doesn't work. I have enable debugging logging of udev and this is what happens on that udev events:
2009-07-19 20:10:22    Laptop    udevd-event[3615]    '/usr/bin/synclient TouchpadOff=1'
2009-07-19 20:10:22    Laptop    udevd-event[3615]    '/usr/bin/synclient' (stderr) 'Failed to connect to X Server.'
2009-07-19 20:10:22    Laptop    udevd-event[3615]    '/usr/bin/synclient' returned with status 1
That happens both on plug and unplug.
Also note that I have fix (after many research) the problem that under su I couldn't run any x application.

Third and more strange. On Kconsole and under su i run synclient TouchpadOff=0 and the touchpad is enabled (normal). I run again synclient TouchpadOff=1 and the touchpad is still enabled!!!!!!!

Can anyone give me any help with these problems?

Re: Problem enabling-disabling touchpad

I recommend using X directly. As you can see there's a thread about similar problem. fdi reads just few files and I think that developers are trying to disable this huge feature one by one... http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=75502 I am not completely sure about your exact solution, but I'd at least want to point you another way.
