Hey,
Just released the first version of Piven, its a Qt based binary Usenet client for NZB files.
Current Version: 0.3 September 2009
Homepage: http://piven.sourceforge.net
Screenshots: http://piven.sourceforge.net/index.php? … 7&Itemid=2
AUR Link: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=27429
Plans for the future:
- Newzbin integration
- Web based front-end
- Post processing of downloaded items - smart unrar/par support
Would be great to get some feedback on this, I have done 0 user testing and just made it during spare time at uni over the past few weeks so it may have some bugs... but I'm hoping someone finds it useful and that I can keep it well maintained in the future.
Thanks & hope it works
Jack

Wow, i just found this new project on the newsletter.
I'm really interested, but actually i can't really help to test it.
Later when i have time.
Please don't let the project die.
A feature that i miss a lot in the usenet clients in linux is adding a groups and see inside it, like pan does it or did it, and like you have in grabit in windows.
When i find time, i'll test it i promise.

Very nice, i've instaled it today and i like it. Maybe tou could add a speed limiter and the possibility to start/stop/add/remove threads. Keep up the good work.

First off I'd like to thank you tntcoda for all your devotion in the program.
But there is one feature that I really miss, and it is the automatic par-checkup and repair.
Other than that the app is flawless

One thing that really, really bothers me about this app is that it uses 'kb' in place of 'kB'
There's a huge difference between the two, and it is definitely measuring in kB.

Thanks for pointing that out Amranu, latest git snapshot has the units replaced with kB instead of kb.

Really fantastic work. I had all but given up on finding a Qt NZB downloader that I liked. Actually started to write my own when I ran across Piven.
I can't thank you enough, you really saved me a lot of time!
Perhaps I can help contribute to the project if I can ever find the time.

just installed v0.3 , and i already love it. Unlike all the other ones i tried sofar, thisone actually shows what file it is downloading.
Only downsides i found are
1) when you enter your server date , you need to press insert (not realy said i need to do that) but well, if you try its managable
2) when you just take a overview trough the settings , the colors jump to weird colors the first time
well this happened to me, but over .. i LOVE it
keep on working on it with all the good work

I really like this app. Nice and easy.
One thing though: When I installed it, I didn't get a shortcut on my GNOME-menus (i.e. Applications-->Internet-->Piven).
I will keep on using this software and see how it works..
