[ SOLVED ] ext3, data recovery.

Hi everyone.

I just make an awful mistake. I formated my data ext3 drive. I wanted to set suse linux to repair my broken archlinux installation, and I started formating the wrong partition. It was 90G, but I stopped the process and now there are two, 20G and 70G partitions. Is there a way to recover parts of my data on that drive or it is a lose cause.

Regards.

Sorry this happened to you, I did it when doing a late-night install half-woozy from lack of sleep. From what I've seen, it is NOT possible to recover your data due to the journal having been wiped. You should keep searching, if the data is all that important to you, but I myself have not been able to find anything.

use photorec. I once saved a friend's life with it. Not sure if this will help in such situation but the only thing you can do is to try.

testdisk, ext3grep, foremost. If you haven't written over the files, you should still be able to recover them with these tools.

Re: [ SOLVED ] ext3, data recovery.

I recovered a lot of data using testdisk and photorec. I didn`t have any sensetive data, so I think I will start all over again with a blank partition. I lost a lot of music, pictures and source codes, but it is a good opportunity to rewrite all the code again smile

That remind me that I need an external hard driver for backups smile

Thank you all for your help.
