Hi there,
I have a bunch of individual files in my file system that need to be encrypted. Customer stuff--some text files, some OpenOffice documents, one folder. Question: is there an "easy" way to encrypt and decrypt files on-the-fly in GNOME? Say: right-click, encrypt file; double click, enter password, decrypts file and opens it in the appropriate application?
Feedback is much appreciated.

I know of command line tools. gpg (gnu privacy gaurd)
there are some gui interfaces for it as well.

I think Gnome PGP is something like you asked for - I haven't been able to come up with any working homepage, tho
To err is human... to really foul up requires the root password.

Hi there,
Thanks for your feedback. Oscar, I checked out GnomePGP before starting this thread, but couldn't find any information about it ... looks abandoned. I've seen the functionality I described in my first posting on a friend's PC, but he didn't have the foggiest how he got this context menu item ... just that it was running with GnuPG ...
For now, I settled on using OpenOffice whenever possible and use the integrated password function. It's not the most secure solution, but it will have to do for now ... should anybody have any more information: would be much appreciated.

LOL that was quick: The answer is Seahorse. Adds a GNOME frontend to GnuPG, plus a nautilus plug-in for encrypting files and folders via context menu.
It's in the Arch extra repositories.
