Recommended Frontend for Pacman

I'm brand new to Arch and I like it, even though I do use the command line a lot I do like the ease of use of using a GUI for certain programs. What is the most recommended front end for pacman? I found a few but most of them are outdated and the newest one I found wouldnt compile for some reason.

Honestly it depends on the environment you're using and your tastes, a good one I heard for gtk would be "gtkpacman" and for qt would be "shaman." An overall suggestion would be to also try jacman if you're not afraid of java. Though nothing ever beats the CLI. wink

Re: Recommended Frontend for Pacman

Jacman doesn't work with the latest pacman. It could also be the case for gtkpacman. AFAIK, shaman is the only one that is currently maintained and works with the latest pacman.

Re: Recommended Frontend for Pacman

im using kde 3.5.9 so i guess ill check out shaman. i already have my aliases setup for install, search and upgrade but when i want to see whats installed or install/remove a lot of things at once i think its a lot easier to do in GUI, this probably stems from the fact that i love synaptic lol

edit: wow shaman is really nice and is equal to (or maybe nicer) than synaptic can i search the AUR with shaman also or is that still not possible?

bash-completion should take care of a lot of your CLI headaches smile

Re: Recommended Frontend for Pacman

Shaman is the best solution for KDE. Shaman depends only on Qt so you don't have to install any KDE stuff if you use GNOME, XFCE or other environment.
