[SOLVED] Wrong mirror broke most of my system

Hi

sorry because I hijacked the other topic :-P
but the problem stands:
I selected a i686 mirror for a x64 system and now kind of nothing works anymore, don't even pacman, is there anything I can do about it?

Thanks,
t4k1t

Re: [SOLVED] Wrong mirror broke most of my system

I have a suggestion to avoid problems like this.

In the mirrorlist file, instead of having lines like this:

Server = http://cesium.di.uminho.pt/pub/archlinux/$repo/os/i686

It would be better to have only (without an associated architecture):

Server = http://cesium.di.uminho.pt/pub/archlinux/$repo/os/

and let pacman decide what architecture to use, based on the output of uname -m, or just use the uname() system call for the same purpose.

What do the devs think about this?

Cheers,
Quetzy Garcia

Did you install from a cd or ftp ? I always do ftp installs and my mirrorlists only ever contain ...x86_64 entries.

Reinstall would be the best, but you should be able to query all installed packages and reinstall them, using the correct mirror

Re: [SOLVED] Wrong mirror broke most of my system

Well I simply reinstalled the whole system and at the moment everything works fine.
I guess it wasn't a good idea to use the config-files from my old i686 install...

However thanks for the replies. :-)
