font issues [SOLVED]

Does anyone know any "option" perameters i can use in my display section of my xorg file to decrease load times of icons eg buffering/cache of some sort. My menu icons lag when i scroll through the menu. I have the appropriate xorg/nvidia drivers.

Also my font is screwy. The letters appear way too close to eachother making it hard to read. The font is set to defaults. It's the same font i use with my other distros but they dont give me this problem. I've got gnome, gnome-extras, and gnome-system-tools installed. Any advice would be awesome
