dirvish

Hi,

I'm new to arch and just installed it the first time.
I want to use dirvish, but it does not seem to be in the sync db.

pacman -Ss dirvish does not return anything, and pacman -S dirvish
returns:

dirvish package not found, searching for group...
error: 'dirvish': not found in sync db

Is there any possibility to install dirvish using pacman, or do I have to compile it from source?

You should learn how to use the AUR, and perhaps use more descriptive titles.

Re: dirvish

Thank you. Dirvish is now installed and running fine.

Anyway, in my opinion the AUR building procedure is a bit complicated compared to gentoo's portage or *BSD's ports. The need to download something manually using a browser reminds me a bit to windows. And for dirvish I had to do all that 4 times: 3 perl modules were required as dependencies, which were all only available via AUR.

Re: dirvish

Thanks for your opinion. If you find it all too cumbersome, you could always use gentoo or *BSD instead.

However, I expect someone will be along shortly to suggest one of the many AUR helper apps that are available (in the AUR, of course smile ).

Yaourt is a community-contributed wrapper for pacman which adds seamless access to the AUR, allowing and automating package compilation and installation from your choice of the 11,000+ PKGBUILDs in the AUR.

It's not Arch's responsibility to make AUR apps easily accessible. Otherwise the functionality would be part of pacman.

Thanks. Seems to be a great tool. I will try that out.
