failed install

Ok i have tried to install xfce4, and lxde when it gets to the install step i get a libreadline.so.5 error. When i run the pacman -Syu it gives me errors when i get done and then pacman will no longer work.
What could cause this and how can it be fixed??

Might be helpful if you tell us exactly what the error you're getting is, it should be listed in /var/log/pacman.log if you don't remember. Also what do you mean by "pacman will no longer work"?

I don't want to be blunt, but didn't you just reinstall your system? As in: shouldn't you know you would bump into this problem, again?

Search the forum for tips on this problem please. Topics about this have been popping up like mad, it's hard to miss them.
