How can I speed up Compiz?

I've done a fresh install of Arch on my nvidia-based desktop.
I'm using the proprietary nvidia driver and things slow down noticably when I invoke fusion-icon.
When I'm working in GNOME normally, things are fine and the desktop is really zippy.
Compiz works faster on my Ubuntu 8.04 desktop than it does on Arch so there must be something wrong.
How can I find out what the problem is?

Provide us more information, logs of your system, logs of X, version of the packages that you are using, xorg.conf. The more, the better.

Re: How can I speed up Compiz?

It has to do with the Desktop Cube.
If Desktop Cube is set and Transparent Cube > Opacity When Not Rotating is set to anything less than 100.0000 then everything slows down.

Works fine here. Do you have anything to back that up?

That's just my experience from toggling it on/off.  Maybe it's my xorg.conf missing something, I dunno.

Re: How can I speed up Compiz?

right click on the fusion-icon
go to compiz options
try and see which combinations of loose binding/indirect rendering work the best for you.
