Hi, I was wondering if it would be possible to get the cheese program without the gnome dependencies, if this is even possible. thanks!

Well, you can do it, i think you should try to modify the confugration options to reach your purpose, and upload the gnome-less version to the AUR.

For a first glance I would say, cheese is not that easy... many things that remind me on when I tried totem and I gave up on that one.

What functionality does that library provide? Maybe you can figure out how/why cheese uses it and maybe figure out a GNOME-independent way to do the same.

libebook is the Evolution address book client. In Cheese it is used for setting the account picture.

I have created a PKGBUILD that patches Cheese to remove the dependancy and functionality that libebook provides. I am not a programmer and it will probably crash at some point but it works for taking pictures anyway.

Note that you need to set audio and video input source before using it. You can do this using gstreamer-properties, which is part of the gnome-media package. After failing to do it by hand, I installed this package and then uninstalled it after I had set the defaults.

Let me know if you want my PKGBUILD. I don't want to share it on AUR since I suspect the quality is lacking (although I haven't seen it crash yet).
