Horizontal fuzz on screen.

Hi,

I used to use the proprietary nvidia graphics driver for my GeForce2 MX/MX 400 graphics card, but since I don't need 3D acceleration I decided to try the xf86-video-nv driver.

The proprietary nvidia driver didn't work without an xorg.conf, so I had generated one using nvidia-xconfig, but the xf86-video-nv does work without an xorg.conf, and it correctly detects my 1440 x 900 screen resolution.

So basically I am using a ViewSonic VA1916w monitor, a GeForce2 MX/MX 400 graphics card, and the xf86-video-n graphics driver, with no xorg.conf, and it is using the correct resolution.

My problem is there is horizontal fuzz on the screen. To describe it: a horizintal 1px high line looks normal, but a vertical 1px line is blurred accross 2 pixels. If the line is black on a white background the left pixel looks dark greyish blue and the right pixel looks dark greyish orange. If the line is white on a black background the left pixel looks light greyish orange and the right pixel looks light greyish blue.

Can you please help me fix it, it hurts my eyes smile Thanks.

Re: Horizontal fuzz on screen.

I changed the screen refresh rate in the xfce settings manager from 60Hz to 75 Hz and the problem is now fixed smile.

However, the problem is still there in slim (login manager), and also the xfce refresh rate setting does not persist after loging out and in again or rebooting. How can I make the screen refresh rate always start at 75Hz?

Re: Horizontal fuzz on screen.

You might want to look at how to configure modelines and generate an appropriate xorg.conf containing only the modelines. Read http://www.x.org/wiki/FAQVideoModes and/or use http://bohne-lang.de/spec/linux/modeline/

Re: Horizontal fuzz on screen.

Using the modeline didn't have any effect but I found a way to fix it.

First I typed X -configure and it generated an xorg.conf file, but when I tested it the refresh rate was still 60Hz. So I changed the VertRefresh line in the xorg.conf to 75 and copied the file to /etc/X11/xorg.conf and now it works.

Thanks for helping smile

Re: Horizontal fuzz on screen.

Why not try the xf86-video-nouveau driver?
