Afaik...

- you might have an easier time finding a solutions to whatever your problem is spelling it "Helvetica" (guess that's the one you mean?).
- Helvetica is a licensed (linosomething) font that is not available for free
- Nimbus or something should be the right thing to take instead. There should be one from microsoft too, that looks about like them.

... no guarantee on anything, me very chaotic brain-memory wink

Re: [SOLVED]Which package is the Heltivicta font in?

Well it is the most commonly mispelled font for me. Problem is that I recall installing it from a package the last time I saw it. *shrugs* The web pages that use Heltevicta seem to take up more space. I also used that font for building my website, so it seems...really awkward.

The last time I had it, it looked similar to Times New Roman, but was vastly different still. I'm thinking I may have had a font substitution.

The packages, xorg-fonts-100dpi and xorg-fonts-75dpi install the bitmap version of helvetica.  These are probably what you're referring to as they are the core X fonts found on most GNU/Linux and BSD systems.

You should be aware however that Fontconfig disables the rendering of these fonts by default.  You'll need to tweak your system settings in order to view them (otherwise substitution will occur).  The easiest way to do this is to remove the offending symlink from /etc/fonts/conf.d:

$ sudo rm /etc/fonts/conf.d/29-replace-bitmap-fonts.conf

Should you ever wish to restore this rule, you can do so with:

$ sudo ln -s /etc/fonts/conf.avail/29-replace-bitmap-fonts.conf /etc/fonts/conf.d/29-replace-bitmap-fonts.conf

Hope this helps.

Meh.. just tried this fix, Arial renders much better and looks the same (compare 'G' in Arial and Helvetica).

Just tried the fix, but it still does not display. Do I have to reboot in order for it to take effect?

I just removed the link, and it was in the font list, but now I am suspecting that it might have been there before? not sure.
Anyway, you are not missing anything special

you are the first one who clims Arial superiority.

Arial is nothing more than cheap version of old (original) Helvetica.
Try Linotype's Helvetica Neue to get even nicer Helvetica.

I am sure you are right.. I am actually a fan of helvetica, even saw the movie... (which also shows at some point, a drunk looking calligrapher getting mad by the comparison to Arial..)
never the less, the Helvetica resulted by the fix looks worse than Arial.. on the same machine
This Linotype you are speaking of costs moneys smile
