I'm assuming you're installing the nvidia driver manually, are you specifying the kernel version to build it for?  And after it's done building, try typing depmod -a

search the forums, i already posted that problem (here). u will need to create the /dev/nvidia* nodes manually in your rc.local or switch to devfs (im assuming u using udev, cause all worked fine for me with devfs).

I'm afraid at the moment 6111 will not work with 2.6.10 ...

No luck here getting 6629 working even with a patched kernel drivers do not work

There is a patch for 6111 to work with 2.6.10 here
