KTorrent in Gnome

i like to run ktorrent in gnome, but strangely the first time i launch ktorrent in a session i get these two following errors:

Could not find mime type "application/octet-stream"
No mime types installed. Check that shared-mime-info is installed, and that XDG_DATA_DIRS is not set, or includes /usr/share.

this appens the first time only... if i close ktorrent and start it again no error message appears anymore...

what can i do?

Re: KTorrent in Gnome

Does this actually stop the program from running? It doesn't look like it should, but if it does - try ensuring that XDG_DATA_DIRS is set before launching the program. ktorrent might set it before exiting. Failing that, there might be some kde service you have to start before you launch ktorrent, though I haven't the slightest idea what that service would be.

Re: KTorrent in Gnome

"Check that shared-mime-info is installed" is this the problem?

$ env | grep XDG
XDG_DATA_HOME=/home/incognito/.local/share
XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=/etc/xdg
XDG_CONFIG_HOME=/home/incognito/.config
XDG_CACHE_HOME=/home/incognito/.cache
XDG_DATA_DIRS=/usr/share:/usr/local/share

Re: KTorrent in Gnome

this is the output of env | grep XDG

XDG_DATA_HOME=/home/XXX/.local/share
XDG_SESSION_COOKIE=fc6df2f860030fab1933fc0c4a51dd6e-1249036893.826716-2014845854
XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=/etc/xdg:/opt/kde/etc/xdg
XDG_CONFIG_HOME=/home/XXX/.config
XDG_CACHE_HOME=/home/XXX/.cache
XDG_DATA_DIRS=/usr/share:/usr/local/share:/usr/share:/usr/local/share:/opt/kde/share:/usr/share/gdm/:/opt/kde/share

so XDG_DATA_DIRS is set, i guess...
and now?

Re: KTorrent in Gnome

ops, after reinstalling shared-mime-info no  error message appears...
i'm sorry for making you lose time for this issue...

however, still ramains strange my actual XDG_DATA_DIRS setting:

XDG_DATA_DIRS=/usr/share:/usr/local/share:/usr/share:/usr/local/share:/opt/kde/share:/usr/share/gdm/:/opt/kde/share

big_smile
thank you all!!!
