Troubleshooting freezing problem - overheating?

Hi,

My computer recently began to freeze and lock up about once a day.  When this happens, I have to do a hard reset because the computer becomes totally unresponsive to any input.

It happens on Windows XP and Arch which leads me to believe it is a hardware problem and possibly overheating.  Even more so because it seems to happen more when it is hotter.

I noticed the last time it happened tho, that the NumLock, CapsLock, and ScollLock LED lights on my keyboard started blinking on and off when it froze.  Anyone know what this means?

I think it is the CPU that is overheating because the other temps are fine (I checked).  Except how do I check CPU temp?

So if anyone knows what the blinking LEDs mean or has any other help that would be great.  Thanks.
