Compiz error

Do I have to change to a different mirror? What do I need to do?

Re: Compiz error

I added a mirror, but it still fails to install.

here's my pacman.conf

[core]
# Add your preferred servers here, they will be used first
Server= ftp://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/archlinux/
Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

[extra]
# Add your preferred servers here, they will be used first
Server= ftp://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/archlinux/
Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

[community]
# Add your preferred servers here, they will be used first
Server= ftp://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/archlinux/
Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

# An example of a custom package repository.  See the pacman manpage for
# tips on creating your own repositories.
#[custom]
#Server = file:///home/custompkgs

[archlinuxfr]
Server = http://repo.archlinux.fr/x86_64

what is missing?

Re: Compiz error

You shouldn't specify mirrors in /etc/pacman.conf, but uncomment them in /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

Re: Compiz error

So not having any listed on the pacman.conf file is correct. I'll take that mirror address out and go to  pacman.d/mirrorlist and do as  you said.

Do I have to run a command to refresh after making the changes?

Thanks

Re: Compiz error

I ran the command. Thanks.

...but when I try to run compiz the windows freeze up. Seems like Compiz has problems. Maybe I should uninstall the forget Compiz?

Re: Compiz error

I just ran the update and I get this:
[davek@arch64 ~]$ su
Password:
[root@arch64 davek]# pacman -Syu
:: Synchronizing package databases...
error: failed retrieving file 'core.db.tar.gz' from mirrors.easynews.com : Forbidden
core is up to date
error: failed retrieving file 'extra.db.tar.gz' from mirrors.easynews.com : Forbidden
extra is up to date
error: failed retrieving file 'community.db.tar.gz' from mirrors.easynews.com : Forbidden
community is up to date
archlinuxfr is up to date
:: Starting full system upgrade...
local database is up to date
[root@arch64 davek]#

why all the failed retrieving file?

maybe I should use another mirror. which one is better?

Re: Compiz error

OK, now I saw the easynews mirror at the top of the file. I remmed it out.
Ran the update again with not fails.

Re: Compiz error

Now when I try to uninstall Compiz I get this error:

[davek@arch64 ~]$ su
Password:
[root@arch64 davek]# pacman -R compiz-fusion
compiz-fusion not found, searching for group...
:: group compiz-fusion:
    ccsm  compiz-core  compiz-fusion-plugins-extra  compiz-fusion-plugins-main
    compizconfig-backend-gconf  compizconfig-backend-kconfig  emerald
    emerald-themes  fusion-icon
    Remove whole content? [Y/n]
checking dependencies...
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: compiz-bcop: requires compiz-core>=0.8.2
:: compizconfig-python: requires compiz-core>=0.8.2
:: libcompizconfig: requires compiz-core>=0.8.2
[root@arch64 davek]#

How do I remove it? What causes this?

Re: Compiz error

I just tried removing Compiz-fusion with Shaman and it did remove all the parts. I wonder why I couldn't remove in the terminal with #pacman -R compiz-fusion ?

I'll try Compiz in Arch another day. smile

Re: Compiz error

pacman -Rs compiz-fusion
might be safer.
-Rd ignores dependencies. -Rs will remove all dependencies installed along with the package.

Not sure if your command will work since compiz-fusion is a group and pacman is complaining that "foo: requires compiz-core>=0.8.2".

Thanks, I'll keep those commands in mind for future use. With Shaman I removed all compiz listings.
