Have you tried using a different mirror, sometimes i would get a problem of syncing or downloading apps, i currently use the unixhead(s) mirror w/o any problems.

I plan to install KDE4. I read the wiki, is:
# pacman -Sy kde
all you need to install all of KDE4?
after install, will the KDE boot option show up in the existing Gnome login screen?
