I did a clean install of Archlinux and KDE4.3.
System Activity shows a process called 'kconf-update' continuously running at 50% (on a 2 cpu system).
What is happening and how can I prevent it?
TIA

kconf_update is trying to update some 4.2 config files to a new alyout in 4.3. See: http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Too … onf_update
It is probably stuck in a loop. Wait a bit and see whether is manages to resolve the issue, otherwise it should be ok to kill it.

Afaik this is the kconf_update of KDE 3 which seems to be broken. I'll relase a new kdelibs3 version which has this disabled by default (at least I hope so).

OK, I will wait till a new kdelibs3 appears in the repo.

You could try the following: Create a file /opt/kde/share/config/kconf_updaterc with this content
updateInfoAdded=false
autoUpdateDisabled=true
and tell me if that helps.

Oh yes, true! Sorry for the misinformation. I knew the program from KDE3 and assumed there was a KDE4-version, too. I wonder how updating is done now?

I hope kdelibs3 -6 "solves" the problem. I just disabled kconf_update.

Yes, the new kdelibs solves the problem.
