firefox 3.5 crashes once or twice every hour

Hi,

ever since I've upgraded firefox to 3.5, it crashes once or twice every hour. The error message on the console when it crashes varies, I've seen things like:

* Segmentation Fault
* GLib-ERROR **: gmem.c:136: failed to allocate 80 bytes. aborting... Aborted
Also, it shows a bunch of these messages:
* (firefox:12082): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: IA__g_object_weak_unref: couldn't find weak ref 0xb6489ec0(0xaaa96750)
* terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::bad_alloc'  what():  std::bad_alloc

I've done a couple of things:
* Tried official build from mozilla.org, same result.
* Started with clean profile, same result.
* Moved $HOME/.mozilla out of the way, same result.

What would be the best way to get more information about why it crashes? GDB? Some stack trace tool?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

/ernst

Re: firefox 3.5 crashes once or twice every hour

I have quite a different problem. After an update yesterday i keep recieving this error:

The application has been updated, but your version of SQLite is too old and the application cannot run.

Yes, indeed I understand the message. But I've downloaded the latest Sqlite from sqlite.org, compiled it, installed, and hell its not working. The message coming from terminal ff startup is the following:

[piotro@p1ohost ~]$ firefox
Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display ":0.0".

It was a full system update! HALP plz!

Re: firefox 3.5 crashes once or twice every hour

Didn't help. Tried with, without, w/&w/o TwinView. Multiple possible solutions finally lead to nothing... It's my main workstation so I'd rather have all my C/C++/C# bookmarks back as soon as possible. I don't want to dig into the intestines of ff in order to retrieve them.

This is the strangest thing I've ever come across while using arch. I'm used to weird stuff when doing a full system upgrade though. Last time my mouse and keyboard  weren't working (HAL daemon, guys ;D). Now I'm stuck with opera (which is not that bad of wb). Can anyone help ? Should I post a bug? Or something?

Re: firefox 3.5 crashes once or twice every hour

piotroxp, not sure why you hack into this thread, as your problem seems completely different from mine. It would be better to start your own thread next time, to keep things readable.

Anyway, I've done some more tests, and found out the behaviour is exactly the same when trying the mozilla.org firefox 3.5, and also mozilla.org firefox 3.0.11 (!).

So, it must be something that has been upgraded during the firefox 3.5 upgrade as well. Here's the relevant snippet from my pacman.log:

Re: firefox 3.5 crashes once or twice every hour

Hi! I had the same problem, got segfaults and GLib-GObject-WARNING in both firefox and conkeror.
I'm not sure what was the solution but i just got it working again.
First i tired to remove the profiles and reinstalling both firefox conkeror and xulrunner. It didn't work but when i disabled plugins the problem disappeared.
I first thought there was a problem with java so i messed around with that before i realized it probably was adobes flashplugin that was the preblem. So I removed it, reinstalled it and tried gnash instead but it wasn't good enough (flickering sound etc), even though it solved the segfaults. When I installed flash again and removed gnash everything worked again.
But because i did a lot of things i can't tell what did the trick but you might get some help from it anyway..?

Re: firefox 3.5 crashes once or twice every hour

Have you still the GLib-GObject-WARNING messages ? Or have they disappeared also ?

Re: firefox 3.5 crashes once or twice every hour

Thanks mang for your answer.
It confirms what I think that the GLib-GObject-WARNING messages are independent from the crashes.

After all they are just warnings, somewhat harmless but pretty annoying.
They seem linked to C++ objects not smoothly destroyed...

In Bugzilla, no bug concerning that seems to be filed. I've seen there many new bugs not assigned to anybody and waiting for attention, so I hesitate to add one for that.
Waiting for a better solution I launch Firefox like that :
/usr/bin/firefox 2>/dev/null
It's not really satisfying though.

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1) Gecko/20090701 Shiretoko/3.5
"firefox" or "firefox %u -no-remote" don't launch too, but "/usr/bin/firefox %u -no-remote" - good. It's magick smile

Re: firefox 3.5 crashes once or twice every hour

My system is 32-bit.

I removed flashplugin, moonlight and mplayerplugin. It seems that it crashes just a tiny bit less, but that could be my imagination. I also noticed that it seems to be sensitive to SSL sites.

Any help is greatly appreciated, as I'm pretty much stuck with this now.

You're surely luckier than me, because my firefox suddenly close. I'm only able to see the window shape for a while and nothing else.
