I just installed Arch with gnome on a new hard drive form the great "schmollie" iso by tpowa
My previous installs over the last 2 years were from earlier versions and I hadn't seen the new 'volume control' applet in 'preferences'.
I spent a half a day trying to get system sounds to work (all other sound OK) to no avail.
Then I noticed in 'sound theme' that after dragging the bottom border down it revealed a check button 'enable window and button sounds' which wasn't checked.
After checking that I had instant system sounds.
Duh!
OK go on, laugh
bebop lives
