Problem with grub in 2009.08 images [solved]

So i decided to reinstall archlinux after about a year with the latest images. The installation went error free until it was time for the grub install, the error read as follows "Error: Missing / Invalid root device:".

My solid state drive is partitioned with sda1 containing my Windows 7 install, and sda2(16GB) with my attempted Archlinux installation. So logically my MBR should be contained in device sda, but I get prompted with the error above. I have also tried the installation with the drive clean and in the absence of any other O.S to no avail.

I have installed archlinux with previous images and never had this problem. Could this be a bug? Or is there something I'm missing.
