Well, the screen just goes black and I can't figure out why, there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with X it just won't work.
It used to work yesterday before I reinstalled X.
Anyone know what the possible causes for the blank screening are?
I have an ATI radeon 9600 graphics card.

Don't log in as root. Never.
Install GDM or KDM, add it to the DAEMONS array in rc.conf or in /etc/inittab and login with that.
