How do I add a recycle/wastebin to fat32 drive ? [Solved]

I have added an extra hardrive to my pc (pata) that I use to keep all my music on. I formatted the drive using gparted, and it is fat32 to allow it to be swapped to other machines.

I mount the drive with this line in fstab

/dev/sdb1 /home/tim/Music vfat user,rw,umask=111,dmask=000 0 0

All works fine except I don't have a recycle/wastebin feature and files can only be hard deleted.

I have wastebin feature on other fat32 drives, like usbpens.

What can I do ?

Many thanks

Tim

er? What do you mean with no wastebin and why can't you delete anything ? Give use more info what programs do you use, do you have full rights over the disk etc.

Umm... Isn't the wastebin only a folder where deleted files are moved to? If so, why not create such a folder, e.g. .wastebin, and move the files you want to not hard delete there?

are you by chance using nautilus? I couldn't get it working either, so it would be great if someone came up with an answer. So far I've just ended up using cli and to move it to a designated wastebin as others have suggested, but I would like to do this also in gui.

I use XFCE4.6.1 with nautilus desktop and file browser.

I have full rights over the fat32 drive as a user, and set up fstab as per instructions in wiki.

I can delete files, but I get this dialog :-

wastebin.jpg

well that's because the file is to big, so i doesnt get moved to .Trash ,  but it's directly removed from the HD.

Re: How do I add a recycle/wastebin to fat32 drive ? [Solved]

The files I'm trying to delete are mostly under 10mb, last one I tried was an empty file ! (I'm also not using windows wink)

Could it be anything to do with me mounting the drive at /home/tim/Music rather than at say /media/Music or /mnt/sdb1 ?

btw the drive does not contain a .trash-0 (used show hidden files) folder, I will create one and see if things change.

EDIT

No change

Re: How do I add a recycle/wastebin to fat32 drive ? [Solved]

SOLVED

I removed the mounting entry in /etc/fstab for the fat32 pata drive, on restart the drive was auto mounted by UDEV??.
Wastebasket works for the drive now.
Only sacifice is I can't say where I want it mounted, stuck with it in /media/~fat32drive~
