TU + Dev + Admin/Mod Subforum

Could we please have a private forum for TUs, devs and forum admins/mods?

Some matters should be discussed in private instead of on public mailing lists. There is the private TU IRC channel, but due to the way TUs are spread across the globe, it's not very easy to get everyone in on a discussion. A private mailing list would work too, but a private forum would probably be easier (we're all in the TU group already).

I include devs, admins and mods in the request because I think it's a good idea to keep them informed on TU matters and get their input.

Re: TU + Dev + Admin/Mod Subforum

I think a private forum would be the wrong way to go.
Perhaps a private mailing list for TUs would be a better option, as there is already a private mailing list for the arch devs. It would be:
a) consistent (with existing arch dev infrastructure)
b) quite possibly easier to manage permissions for (as there wouldn't be a need to butcher forum permissions)
c) provide the disconnected nature that you are aiming for
d) forums blow  wink

Re: TU + Dev + Admin/Mod Subforum

Recalling my TU days, we had the tur-users list (now known as aur-general), and I don't remember this being a problem. I know... things change, particularly in Arch. smile

On a related note, though, when devland got the arch-dev-public list, it was consequent to a general agreement that the vast majority of dev business could be, and should be, discussed in the open. I'm not looking for details or anything, but my first thought reading this thread was "are there really TU issues with that kind of sensitivity?"

If you really want it, I'd go with cactus on the private list option.

Please feel free to mutter "Dumb old guy, rambling on about the old days... wtf does he know?"... or words to that effect. tongue

So much for transparency! :-)

Seriously, I'm shocked that such a forum/list does not already exist.

I agree with cactus that a ML would be better.

tomk: I think that is to do the TU candidacy discussions. The dev already do that on a private ML.

Well, not for TUs...

Anyway, it looks like the TUs will get a private mailing list anyway. The out-of-date notifications for orphan packages in [community] currently goes to the private dev list (we require users emails to flag packages out of date so need to keep those emails private).

That ML won't be for discussion, AFAIK. So they'll need another one.

I should post here just so I can have my names up with all those other big names that think this is an important enough issue to respond. But I won't...

I don't really see what the point of such a forum would be. As others have said, what do we have to discuss that we can't state openly? IMO, the current infrastructure is adequate.

I share your opinion on this matter. Stuff should be discussed in the open, whatever they may entail.
