when I boot teh installation cd it gets to where you can chose boot the live cd tools etc.. when I try to boot the live cd it gets in to some kind of strange loop. looking like this:
sda: sda1
sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] attached SCSI disk
done.
:: Running Hook [archiso]
:: mounting tmps, size=75%...done
:: waiting for devices to settle...
:: waiting 6s for USB devices
:: scanning for boot device...
and then it repeats
is it trying to read my windows xp partition?
with x86 version you get another kind of strange loop but I would rather get x64 working even if I have to use another distro.

Which "version"? Have you tried any other versions than this one?

hehe not sure if I used the right word there, or if I understand you correct. I've tried the x86_64 and the i686 the x86_64 was downloaded today and the i686 is an old cd. havent tried any other distro yet I prefer Arch

Welcome to the forum, durutti!
It should work. Can you try it with empty hard disk to install ?

i have no empty hard drive to try with. thinking of formatting my windows drive but first I came across this: http://kmuto.jp/debian/hcl/Asrock/N61P-S/ does that mean that everything works or does it mean that everything where there is no yes in the box is not working?

Rows without "Yes" tell about "devices" that exists but do not require any special kernel module to work. So the only one probably not working is nVidia video chip. But using nvidia official drivers it should work.
Anyway, having windoze on HDD should not be a problem booting ArchISO... Maybe CD is written with errors or hard disk (or its controller) is taking the last path in its life?

seems like it was a problem with my old cd-drive. with my new sata dvd-burner I can boot into xubuntus live-cd. will try with arch as soon as I get some new cd-r
