I seem to be having trouble getting my resolution higher than 1024x768, I tried editing my xorg.conf file and putting the preferred resolution in the corresponding color depth section, but to no avail. I have a 19" LCD monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 997DF) and 1024x768 doesn't suit me too well. My video card is installed correctly (driver and all) and I can't seem to think of anything else that would cause me not to get a higher resolution.
Thanks in advance.

in your conf file do you have vertical and horizontal refresh rates listed (sorry i don't have an example handy but I believe i posted the necessary code sysntax for it or soemone here may have an example)? I know, in the past not having my refresh rates listed caused similar problems.

another thing to check is your X logfile... if you are on an nvidia card the DDC on occasion detects wrong resolutions and sets it to one of them - I have to force NoDDC and set my laptop to 1400x900 to make it work (this is it's native resolution).

sarah31, my horizontal and vertical refresh rates were both listed, i even tried reducing them but no luck yet.
phrakture, i remember coming across your laptop thread previously, i just tried setting
Option "NODDC" "1"
and it only caused my resolution to go to what appears to be 800x600.
thanks for the input so far.
EDIT: I actually just increased my vertical and horizontal refresh rates and managed to get 1280x964 resolution. However, I can't seem to get an arbitrary resolution (e.g. 1152x864).

Shouldn't refresh rates be left at monitor specified values?
I've always been able to use the 'Screen Resize and Rotate' app to change my kde resolution.
