FIRST POST:
WOW, I've been distro hopping for awhile (Red Hat, Fedora, Mandrake, Debian, Slackware, Gentoo, Ubuntu) Basically, I've tried A LOT! My favorite before now was Gentoo, but it takes just WAY too much time to compile....Even on my AMD64 System.
So, I wanted my life back and I decided to move on to Ubuntu. Nice distro, but still not quite ready for prime time. Enter ARCH!!!! Wow, everything worked perfect out of the box and no ridiculous compile times.. I'm not even concerned that it doesn't have a AMD64 build since there's too many small issues with AMD64 distros that it's not quite ready yet (no 64 bit Flash, Open Office, etc...)
Net, just wanted to say THANK YOU. I'm finally at piece with my distro and running nothing but the bleeding edge STABLE!

Thanks for the warm welcomes.... And yes, very hard to live without USE flags and meaningless text scrolling across my screen for hours during compiles!

I can think of 1 'sort of' dissappointing thing with Arch.. It worked TOO well! I barely needed to tinker at all!

if you like scrolling text across screens, try this:
eval "while [ 1==1 ]; do cat /var/log/messages; done"
it is my unofficial gentoo emulator

Me too... and Sarah31. I'll post on her behalf because she's too lazy to do it herself.

hehe, that's why I have a dual boot FC3/Arch. Arch is very fun to setup, but once finished, there doesn't seems to have mysterious bugs appearing. This is where the fedora fun begins

my new screen saver?

well,
it would be better to use :
while true ; do fortune all ; done
perhaps you might see something funny, if you're any good at speed reading.
Also, 'yes' is a really handy program when you're bored and you wanna see
some text scrolling on your screen.

add a sleep in there.
while true ; do fortune all ; sleep 10; done

I think the whole point was to have a screen saver...

10 seconds isn't really that long.
It would give you a chance to read it too.
sleep is in seconds right?
