Is the system responsive with 3D ? Because if it isn't, then glxgears fps don't mean anything. Resizing has been fixed ?

system is responsive with 3d - resizing works fine for me, but i have xorg-server-catalyst-maximize-fix from aur, and resizing was fine with 9.7 as well.

I tested it in Ubuntu (because I'm waiting for an updated AUR-package in Arch Linux) and there Extreme Tux Racer, Trackmania Nations Forever and Tales of Monkey Island were noticeable faster/smoother/better.

No, i'm not talking about games. I'm talking about system responsiveness. Is there the lag that was always there - everywhere --> from resizing to ... pressing the Kmenu button - or has it been reduced ?

Μore responsive than before or "just responsive" ? Because when I passed from catalyst to xf86-video-ati, the desktop became really accelerated (both 2d and 3d). There is no lag.

Dunno about the resizing, because I'm using the patched xorg-server and pressing Kmenu is below 1 sec and was always below 1 sec for me. Takes its time for the animation, but I'm have "normal speed" animation in kde4, so nothing unusual.

Someone can please post PKGBUILD of 9.8 version?

So fglrx is still unresponsive. So AMD is doing no work. I still wonder how I could work on my machine with that thing some months ago...
I am waiting for xf86-video-ati to be usable for r600-r700 users so that they can experience a fully accelerated desktop.

Compiz-git ? It hasn't had an update since March, and the current (C++, not the previous, compiz fusion one) compiz is highly unstable. Try with the stable Compiz fusion again.
First, I have compiz-fusion 0.8.2, but there is one important commit after this release - Workaround "Force synchronization between X and GLX", which tries to fix bug with input text.
javum, you are using an r6xx/r7xx card?
This is a known problem for these cards. 3d acceleration is still in development. All you can do is wait.
It is the alone bug which stops me using Compiz with open drivers.
Ok. I will be waiting fo the fix
How about tearing/flickering during video playback in Catalyst 9.8?

I am guessing that Flash not work with this version of Catalyst (or, maybe, it's just me)?

Α very spooky looking crappy Windows-registry-like fglrx database-like thing.

could some one who has catalyst installed please answer the following
1) Do you still have delay with kde menu and window resizing
2) Does resizing get fixed with xorg-server-maximize-fix
3) Does flash work?
4) How is the performance with 2.6.30? glxgears with 3d and 2d etc
5) Are kernel patches still needed
Thanks

One, I don't use KDE, but window resizing is fine and fast. Three and five, no. Four, it performs nicely. FireGL glxgears (fgl_glxgears -- if you are using AMD/ATi Catalyst, you should be using this to get a better idea about your graphics performance, rather than glxgears) gives me an average of 580 frames a second, which sounds about normal for my IGP.

I have updated my repo with the newer catalyst 9.8.
add this to your /etc/pacman.conf before core repo:
[archiso-live]
Server = http://arch-live.isawsome.net/packages/
I have updated my kernel yesterday and it still has the patch to make catalyst 9.7 work. I also can tell you there are no long debug message log anymore.
I hope this helps.
EDIT: fix type in address

glx gears ~1600 with compositing / ~ 1100 without
fgl_glx gears ~ 375 with compositing / ~ 750 without
on a 3200 igp

Nice to see a Catalyst version released that looks to work (at least).
For Ubuntu's next release you reckon?

I used to be surprised that I was still surprised by my own stupidity, finding it strangely refreshing.
Well, now I don't find it refreshing.
I'm over it!

i have mobility radeon HD3670 and I am getting pretty low numbers with glx gears, with composting it is 950fps
fgl_glx gears with composting is only 250 (I thought mobility hd3670 was a better card...)
do u have any optimizations in your xorg.conf
Also mpeg4 (divx/xvid) videos goes black in full screen...it runs for a while then goes blank. I have tried the video in drangon player and mplayer it happens in both.
firefox starts with a dark black box but after that is usable.
I might have to go back to radeon driver
